"In the film 'Volochayevka Days' there will not be very much music. In this work the main difficulty for me was having to write a song that would become the leitmotif for all the music in the film... <...> This is a heroic song in the true sense of the word. I worked on it a lot, I wrote ten different versions and only the eleventh one satisfied me. I am dwelling on this song in so much detail, because it is the core of the whole film score. You can sense it in the overture to the film, in its finale and in the choral sections. The theme is there all the time. That was what made the task difficult."
