Overture and Finale of the opera by E. Dressel "Armer Columbus".
The premiere of this production, in which the pieces by Shostakovich were heard for the first time, took place in the Leningrad Maly Opera Theatre on March 14, 1929.
Manuscripts: the hand-written score for the Overture is in the Sheet-Music Library of the Leningrad Maly Opera Theatre; the hand-written score for the Finale is in the Leningrad State Archive for Literature and Art (Stack 9599, No.20165); the score for 45 orchestral voices is in the Leningrad State Archive for Literature and Art (Stack 9539, No.20164).
